Oregon Timber for Shipyards & Dry Docking
Large-section Douglas Fir for vessel and submarine support
Simply Oregon supplies large-section Oregon timber to shipyards across Australia, including timber for submarine cradles, dry-dock blocking, vessel supports, wedges and cribbing.
Oregon (Douglas Fir) offers an ideal combination of strength, workability and controlled hardness for supporting valuable marine structures.
Custom cut. H3 treatment and oiling available. Australia-wide supply.
Why Oregon for vessel support?
For dry-dock and cradle applications, timber needs to be strong enough to carry substantial loads without being unnecessarily hard against the vessel.
Oregon provides an excellent balance:
Strong and load-bearing for heavy vessel support
Relatively forgiving contact surface, helping minimise marring or damage to hull surfaces
Clean contact timber with a low tendency to leave surface staining
Available in very large solid-sawn sections
Easily cut, shaped and machined into blocks, wedges and cradle components
Straight, consistent grain
Can be H3 treated and oiled where required
This combination has made Douglas Fir a long-established timber for dry-dock blocking and other heavy marine applications.
